Having stayed at Treetops and Carribbean out of those two I would choose Carribbean for the kids but depends on school and where you work. Treetops is a hotel and Carribbean is a condo a big difference. At Carribbean the kids roam from pool to pool, games rooms to playgrounds and there is a great interaction between families. Plus your close to MRT / Harbourfront and the new circle two shopping centres, the marina, sentosa, mt faber walking tracks. Treetops is close to the action in orchard and botanical gardens but not close really close to mrt. Both have a shuttle buses to the main work areas, treetops is free, caribbean is $2 per ride.

Perceptions only. Harbourfront is less than 200m, that Orchard walk is probably about a 800m. In the heat thats a lot of sweat and the one thing I have learnt is to limit your exposure to walking in work attire. Also on weekends its a pain because Ion has no proper access for strollers. You have to change lifts twice and still get an escalator. Also they got rid of the main walk crossing across to Ion down orchard so you have to walk further now as well.

I should say being at treetops I always walked through orchard towers to get to Jasons supermarket. I called it the real night safari tour of singapore.

I would choose the Caribbean. Lots of safe outdoor space for the kids to play in and as it's by the sea there is a nice breeze. Very convenient for everything you need (literally) as it's right next to HarbourFront and Vivocity and the MRT is 200 metres up the road - plus you'll find loads of busses right outside the door.
