Baby born to a Canadian parent

Post by kn1ghtx » Thu, 29 Oct 2009 10:08 am

Hi,

any Canadian here who has born a child outside Canada after April 2009?

I'm a Canadian citizen, obtained through naturalization (migrated to Canada, PR, then citizen), now living in SG. My baby was born here, but can obtain Canadian citizenship through me (confirmed by Canadian High Comm).

so first, the Canadian High Comm counselor gave me CIT 0003 form to apply for my baby's citizenship cert. Then a couple of weeks later, when I submitted the application, another counselor told me that CIT 0003 is the wrong form. I need to use CIT 0001.

what's the difference between these 2 forms?
anyone here has gone through the process? so maybe you can share which form you used before?

Thanks

Hi there and congrats.

CIT 0001 is Application for a citizenship certificate from inside Canada
CIT 0003 is Application for Canadian Citizenship - Minors
CIT 0002 is Application for Canadian Citizenship - Adults

As your child was not born within Canada and is currently not within Canada you need to fill out CIT 0003. The counselor was wrong (must have been a Newfie).

actually, the first counselor (a young-er lady) was the one who gave me CIT 0003. the second counselor (older lady - like auntie) was the one who told me I had to use CIT 0001.

but the CIT 0001 is revision 2009 (or seems like), and the title doesn't say anything about "application from inside Canada".

google shows there's CIT 0006 (very similar to CIT 0001) but "application from outside Canada". but I can't find this CIT 0006 anymore from cic.gc.ca website.

what do u think?
