Birds negotiations on the Orchard?

Post by Pablito » Sun, 25 Oct 2009 12:05 pm

Who can tell me about these birds on Orchars, what are they doin there, and why exactly there?
It is mynas, do they fly here from different part of Singapore to make their "bridal ceremonies"? Something like royal pinguins?
But why Orchard? There's so many wild forrest here? Maybe there's no other bird species here?
Just curious.

depends on which end of orchard road. OT birds are different from most of the rest of the birds down there. And yeah, a lot of them fly in from other areas to negotiate here! :P

If you are refering to the avian sorts then you must mean the Myna. This bird is like a sparrow or pigeon in europe. City slickers, not affraid of humans, even mimic sounds etc.

Maybe the crowd in Orchard as old familty nesting spot, since it used to be an orchard (surprise there? :) ) or just because where there is plenty of people, there is bound to be plenty of food. Open air restaurants chase them away, so better to eat scraps of passsers by?

Come to think of it, the other birds are there for a similar reason :)
