Internet In Batam

I will be working in Batam soon, would like to check if anyone been staying there before? How is the Internet connection there like ? Is there any fast/high speed internet connection for home use avaliable in Batam?

Hi, I haven got the confirm location that I will be staying but can anyone gimme some idea or a list of internet provider that could support at least skpe or msn video calls?

Hi i just get to know the location maybe will be at orchid park or near vista hotel apartment? any advise if there's any internet service provider which provides decent connection? am using im2 and telkomsel flash (the wireless one) the speed is hell slow -.- 197kbps download :evil: -.- any faster connection like 1mbps at least in batam?

You might be in for a nasty surprise. While I have no experience regarding broadband in Batam, a Sottish mate of mine is living in a rather good area in Jakarta and the best he can get is 800kbps wireless at USD120 a month.

any information about home interenet other than wireless mobile broadband? example like DSL / home broadband / etc.. will these be faster?

I use the wireless at Tering Bay from time to time without issues. Friends live in Batam City Centre and after initial hassles seem satisfied with their DSL speed. I'll confirm when they get back from holiday.

I used to live in Orchid Park many (actually, soon 10) years ago!
Certainly things have much improved since those days (with a single Internet provider available through 25kB/s Modem at work and no chance for a connection at home), do expect Batam to be years behind Singapore (or even Jakarta, for that matter) in many aspects.
It's an adventure - and there's always the ferry to Singapore if you need sanity!
People are nice, though, and i still have friends and visit occasionally.

Hi thanks for all the advise. I heard of 1 service provider "speedy DSL" was wondering anyone could rate this?
