need help with business side of business

Post by techie » Mon, 18 Oct 2004 2:57 pm

Hi all,

I am an engineer working at big MNC's for years and finally put some thoughts together for my own business. I have a Software/networking product designed and planning to go into the market with this off the shelf product and general service/consultancy in IT/Networking fields. I am a quite competent engineer and have confidence with my prododuct, but when it comes to business, I have no idea where to start with.

I will be setting up my business in Europe, where I plan to move very soon, and I got information about legal side of setting up a business. But have no idea about branding, marketting etc. I am preparing a web site, and hoping to put some ads to relevant magazines, newspapers.

Can anyone advice me any good books, or methodology that I can follow as a checklist. I don't have time to study economics or marketing and I am happy with starting as a small business, but I want to get as much as advice before I start and do it right. Thank you.

Hi techie,

I would suggest you get your work patented or protected. details you can search under UK patent office.

Quick method is to write detailed description, seal in envelope and post date stamp, to yourself on back and front, just explain to post office, that you want the back stamped also over the seal.

If it goes to court, you have this proof of posting, which can prove, that you came up with the idea first.

Are you in Singapore at present? if so we can meet and i can give you a few tips

Hi Techie,

If you like, you could brief me on your product and I can evaluate it and probably do all the internet branding and marketing on line. I also have 11 distributors in different countries.

I work on a commission basis, for a digital camera manufacturer, establishing distributorships world wide. The manufacturer can also supply a reference for me if you require.

I can also refer you to a Danish and swiss internet shops, that will probably also give a reference if needed.

My main education bakground is in business and export, Ranum Export Academy Denmark.

My business background is quite wide 25 years in computer components and online sales, also business development for joint venure projects, between Denmark and Asia.

I freelance, travel To UK, Denmark, Taiwan and Singapore on a regular basis. Let me know where you are located at the moment!

Regards

zack
