Polytechnics

Post by Dobb » Sun, 18 Oct 2009 4:05 pm

I am trying to help my friend (A foreigner) applying for a polytechnic position here, thing is, we've been eying out Nanyang Poly for a while now, for a diploma in media designs.

We've waited until the application period to open, which was a few days ago, and to our horror, their media diplomas are reserved exclusively only for locals. I have personally went to their office before and they told me that any foreigners are able to apply for whichever course they offer.

What a load of bull,I say.

We can however, appeal for it, do a personal application to the office, but that got me thinking, if it is that difficult, is it even worth it?

Why the bloody annoying procedures? After application, there's an exam, then interview and portfolio. I didn't realize it was this hectic when I was applying in Malaysia, all we need are results.

The reason we're going for NYP is because of location, it's nearer to our place and we can take the MRT.

Another alternate options we got is Republic Polytechnic in Woodlands, but I worried it might ended up being the same, courses are reserved for locals.

To any foreign students in any poly or anyone, do advice?

My wife is a lecturer at Republic Poly and she certainly has Foreign students in her class, I cannot talk about NYP - She teaches IT classes, I have no idea if certain disciplines are closed to foreigners, but I have not heard so.

I am certain there are no such restrictions in any of the polytechnics.
