silicone
pros : easier for surgeon, old material used for many years with high safety profile, less damage to the nose in the short term, sharp effect, easy to remove, revision is easy, alot of size makes lots of choices for surgeon to create best effect, can build a high bridge, removal hardly damages nasal tissue ....
cons : can be movable if planted supraperiosteally, in the long term ( more than 5-10 years ) has to be removed as the risks start to increase drastically, is not a permanent implantation material, may look abit fake, cheaper.
goretex
pros : more sturdy as it interweaves with nasal tissue, more natural, more blunt augmentation, SUPPOSED to last longer than silicone.
cons : higher infection risk than silicone, warping if goretex sheets are used, deviation is hard to correct, harder to use for surgeon, less variety of sizes, long-term usage unpredictable as its a new material, removal means lots of damage to nasal tissue and is difficult, looks thicker than silicone block, more expensive..
rib cartilage for bridge, ear cartilage for tip
pros : supposed to last forever, natural effect, sharpness/bluntness can be customised.
cons : much more expensive, rib scar ( if use your own, can also use dead body cartilage ), ear scar, rejection, infection risk, high risk of warping and re-absorbing in first few months, may require revision, unpredictable, pls find a surgeon who specialise in rib rhinoplasty only.
