Requesting of the advices for my wife dependant pass

Post by dewang » Sun, 11 Oct 2009 4:26 pm

Hi All,

Just want to seek advice of applying dependant pass for my wife.

I’ve been working and staying in Singapore since Dec 2008. I applied PR in Feb 2009, rejected in early May 2009. They stated re-summit the application within 6 months time.
My current SPASS is going to get expired in early Nov 2009.

I got married with my wife at ROM in early Apr 2009 (She has held student pass from one of private school with full attendance. She has held the pass since Mar 2008, renewed the student pass in Mar 2009 and going to get expired the current pass in Mar 2010.) But unfortunatedly she has to cancel her student pass in end of this month Oct 2009 because she doesn't wish to attend anymore…...and she'll stay in Singapore 1 month with white card. So only up to end of Nov 2009 to stay in Singapore..

I got upgraded salary 2.5K with effect of Sep 2009. (HR didn’t update ICA’s record). Then my company had tried applying dependant pass for my wife in early Sep 2009. Unsuccessful, they replied salary record is only 2.2K.
So HR officer quickly summit of the letter with the acknowledge sign of CEO and appeal to MOM. Unsuccessful again. :(
Is it because my current SPASS is going to expire in Nov 2009? Or my wife is staying long with student pass? :???:
Really sad..

Now HR is going to help me renew of my current SPASS in coming week.
So after renew my SPASS, I still would like to apply Dependant pass for my wife.
I dare not summit the PR for both of us as S gov is strictly for foreigners now. 
I’m not intending to go for Euro or anywhere. Even thinking of doing own business in Singapore and move my parents to live in Singapore with me..

I’m so sorry if I bother you all with my words. But anyway, please kindly help and give advice from your experiences…. So sad now.
I got anything wrong with my procedures... ? Please advice..
We just don’t wish to live apart. Please kindly advice me.. Thanks in advance….

S pass holders as far as i know, cannot have dependants here! You need to be upgraded to EP.
Her only way is to find a job very quickly! S pass holders do not qualify for dependant pass on 1800$ You must be earning 2500$ and be on EP, So my thought is you are turned down because you are holding S pass.

Even though you are getting enough money 2500$ it's not policy on S pass to issue dependant pass. See if you can be upgraded to EP!

Dear ksl, thanks so much! Well noted of your advice.. HR is also saying about upgrading EP after I renewed my SPASS.

Sorry to disturb you again. The procedure might go like below ?
1. HR renew my SPASS
2. HR upgrade my SPASS to EP.
3. Then HR help me apply Dependant pass for my wife...

My sincere apology to you if I approach very wrong to you.
Anyway Thanks so much of your reply... I was waiting of a reply post since I posted around 4:30 PM. .. Thanks.

ksl, you are not quite correct. The dependent's pass can be obtained if the S pass holder is earning $2500 or more. Just because someone is on an S pass does not mean they cannot earn 3 or 4k/month. It just means they are not qualified academically to be put on an EP. So if the OP is earning 2500/mo on an S pass he qualifies to have his wife here on a DP. However, MOM probably wants to see if his S pass is going to be renewed as the Employer failed to timely update MOM with the increment adjustment. On the renewal he could probably get her DP easily.

When it's time for the renewal, the employer should apply for an EP instead of an S pass (providing which you qualify for an EP aside from the new income level). But having noted the new salary on the EP application, be sure the employer ticks the "S" pass if not eligible for an EP (otherwise it would be rejected and then would have to submit another application for the S pass again. Again, the DP should be applied for at the same time as the EP.

Thank's SMS I stand corrected, and should have referred him to the HR department at SMS.com. I asked our office although they have no HR department but a few S pass holders. I couldn't find a link on MOM for S pass holders that explained the upgrade in income for dependants. I presume it would be set at 2500$ the same as EP. Imagine you could consolidate all the bad HR departments into your little office and do it all for them  For a price of course

Researching and answering questions on here is a good way for me to keep abreast of my own game. The habit of "just checking" before typing is getting to be a habit (at my age I know long just trust my own memory - and things are changing so fast as well!
