Entry Level Job/Internship in Marketing for Foreigners

Post by lumi » Sat, 10 Oct 2009 11:56 am

Can anyone advise on the chances of finding an entry level position (or internship) in the marketing field for a foreigner in Singapore. I am Australian if that makes a difference. I have been searching the job pages but most of the adverts ask only for Singaporeans or Mandarin speakers, and I wonder of those that don't say this are also only looking for such people but just didn't mention it in their ads.

I am willing to take on other types of jobs as well (such as Admin or Customer Service) though the jobs ads for these positions seem to (mostly) have the same Singaporean/Mandarin speaker requirments.

Thanks for any information you can provide :)

While a company might welcome having an Australian or any other foreigner for that matter, the government is unlikely to grant a pass for internship in a field that is already over-saturated with plenty of local/PR's with suitable certifications, with and without experience. I'll not say it's impossible but it is highly unlikely.

Thanks for your reply. Would I be more employable if I had a WHP? I am a full time student (studying externally) and just read that I could get this (sounds like it's almost certain to be granted once I apply).

Does anyone know if a WHP would make me more employable?

It's certainly not going to hurt.

This is what I was wondering about, muterabbit. So many job ads say Singaporean or PR only and haveing a working holiday pass doesn't make me either of those so i would still be ineligable to apply. Perhaps I am not searching the better websites for the type of position I am looking for. I will make a new post about that....
