Advertising in Singapore and jobs

Post by kunal_Srivastava » Mon, 05 Oct 2009 11:23 pm

Hi

I am Kunal Srivastava from Mumbai (India) I have a few questions about the Advertising industry in Singapore. I have a Bcomm degree from Mumbai University (Sydenham college -affiliated) and a diploma in Advertising and PR from KC college also in Mumbai.

I have been working in Mumbai (Bombay) as a copywriter (Advertising) for about 5 years. I am going to apply for my EPEC in a few weeks. Currently I am finishing my Book. I have worked on some well known brands in India. Also AXN -that the only client of ours that’s in Singapore. I need a few questions to be answered.

JOB related

1) Due to the economic condition in the world is it difficult to get a job in Singapore?

Advertising related (preferably answered by someone in advertising)

1) What are the chances of finding a job in Singapore in the advertising field? Is it saturated? Or they are on a constant look out for writers? Basically, is it easy or do you require contacts (like here in India)?

2) Should ones book include brands (proactive work) from Singapore. Or just work on any brand it’s the idea that counts.

3) Which is better? To land in Singapore and then look for a job. Or start sending your CV online to these agencies and hope for a reply.

4) Are foreigners easily accepted for jobs in agencies? Or is there a “Singaporeans first”

I think you will find that addidude has probably 15 years experience in advertising here in Singapore not counting time served in the UK.

Jobs are difficult and employment passes are even harder as of about 1 month ago. Unless you really have something to offer and know the local market well. Having a salary offer exceeding 7K/mo SGD will help immensely as those, so far, seem to be the only ones that haven't been affected too much.

Thanks sundaymorningstaple that was prompt. i cant PM anybody yet. Is there a way i can get in touch with addidude or Austin512TX?

an offer of 7k SGD would be about INR 2,36,608

Anyways thanks again. Hopefully addidude can shine some light on the other Queries. I am applying for EPEC in a few weeks, lets just hope for the best. Even though it seems difficult ill give it a shot.

Addadude & Austin512TX will probably see this thread when they log in as they are fairly regular.
