How much can I ask for in Salary for Sales/Nurse

Post by tewi » Wed, 30 Sep 2009 10:48 am

Hi everybody

Hope you can help me! Preferably as soon as possible (-:

I have got a job-offer, and they are asking how much salary I am expecting. I have no idea at all how much I can say I want to get paid. Have lived in Singapore for a year, and have not worked until now.

The job is in a private Clinic. They need a person with a health/nursing background, but I will not be doing nursing assignments (don't even have to be registered with SNB, which I'm not). I have to sell a specific healthcare-product to a specific group of patients, do the patient want it, I have to teach him/her how to use the product and if there in the future is a problem I have to go to the patient to help him/her. I have a Bachelor degree (3,5 year) in Nursing so I will not be happy not to get paid for having this BA. I hold a dependent pass.

Really appreciate your help (-:

If it's a private clinic and you wont be doing nursing duties, you will be lucky to get $1500/mo.

Your best bet is to get registered with the proper gov't bodies and look for a nursing position. (But, if you haven't already noticed, nurses are miserably paid in Singapore in general).

Thank you so much for your quick reply :D

I fully understand what you mean.. I'm just thinking.. - they wanna hire me because I have a BA in Nursing... Shouldn't I get paid for that, even though I'm not doing directly nursing assignments? They asked for a person with nursing background...
Have looked on the "Singapore Salary Guide" there it says a Nurse with a diploma will min. get 2500, max. 4000 (working in ward). I have a BA...

Maybe I'm totally wrong, but I actually thought the salary would be higher in a Private Clinic than in Government Hospitals..

I will defiantly ask for them to help me get registered with SNB, just so I have it - having it, it's easier to get hired elsewhere if I would like that at some point.

But you are so so right.. . it's NOT in Nursing you'll be a millionaire!!!

I agree with SMS, 1500$ would be the top end in a sales outlet, though bonus may be available, as you are not being employed in nursing. When you say they have asked for nursing background, what are you actually trying to say? That they should pay you a nurses income! I doubt it very much, in a retail outlet.

Why didn't you get yourself registered earlier with SNB? A whole years as gone by! I think it is a clear case that they will not pay a nurses income in the retail sector, though they know you are desperate for a job, if you are a nurse that is out of work on DP, so if you are looking to get the job, I would think twice about the income that you are going to ask for, though know harm in starting the talks at 2500 and see what they have to say! So be prepared for the worst scenario!

i bet the guide doesn't say how long you have to work to get $2,500/month.
