Can u help me narrow my district search?

Post by Jane_S » Sat, 26 Sep 2009 6:59 pm

Hello,
We've got a possible move to Singapore coming up next year. We have a 2 year old. We'd like to get him into a morning pre-school.
I've been doing some research on where we can afford to live. We want to be walking distance to an MTR line (as we'll both we working down at Raffles Quay) so my boy's pre-school will need to be walking distance from our condo....
The areas that I get the feeling we can afford are district 20, 21, 23...but it seems that 21&23 are not on MRT lines...
Basically we can afford about 3000k in rent, need 3 bedrooms, would like approx 1600sf, and need some basic facilities (a childs pool & playground...a tennis court would be a bonus!).
Ideally my maid would be able to walk my boy to school (or in a pram) and pick him up....
Can anyone tell me where some nice little pre-schools are (in the areas I can afford)...that way I can narrow my search to the districts that have a pre-school for him and are on an MTR line. I really need to narrow my search...I've been on this website all day and am going bananas!!
Anyone's help is much appreciated!
Thanks very much.
Jane
PS. If you can even recommend specific condos that sound perfect for us I'm most appreciative!

Condos

Maybe you can consider Braddell View since there are 3 bedrooms at about $3,000 a month. The development is not new but you may find some renovated units. They also have the facilities you require and is walking distance to Braddell MRT station. Other condominium you may also consider is Compass Heights which has a shopping mall and MRT station built alongside the project.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply Joop.
Yes Braddell view keeps coming up in my searches. I will go and look at it next week when I'm in Singpore. Building/facilities look old/tired but otherwise it has what we are looking for with our limited budget.

Any good pre-schools around there suitable for a 2 year old? Preferably something expat orientated....

focus on district

Since your child's needs is your top priority, you may want to decide on the school first. Have you shortlisted any school yet? It will be easier that way as some schools have branches thus giving you ample locations to consider. Eg. if you want to place your child in Eton House, they have branches at Newton, Orchard, Vanda, etc. From there then you start searching for your house.

Understand you are looking at district 20, 21 and 23 because of affordability but it may not be true. District 23 is too far from your workplace and houses in district 21 are not cheap either. You may want to consider at district 9, 11, 14. It is still possible to sniff out the house that meet your budget once you have decided on the school.

District 20 Upper Thomson area is great!

Based on your criteria, you can find the right place within walking distance to Thomson Plaza with supermarket suitable for expat, Montessori Childcare, lots of eateries, major buses that hit Raffles Quay directly, all along Upper Thomson Road. That's why I chose this area to live in because I need my domestic help to walk my child to school too. I once considered Bradell View but it might not be within walking distance to all these amenities & convenience though. The only minus of Upper Thomson Rd is No MRT plying this road but the bus service is just as great :D You are moving into SG while I am moving out soon, well all because of work too...maybe I should rent my place to you!....lol :)

err I don;t think braddel view seem far to braddel mrt?

I am stay at toapayoh lorong 1/2 here.

My house here can view braddel view flats.

the walking distance I don;t think you need 10mins or so to reach the mrt.

Unless you walk dam slow?

I feel 5 to 7 mins you can reach the mrt.

From braddel mrt going to orchard is just 3 stations away.
