OIL AND GAS

Post by longstebe » Thu, 24 Sep 2009 2:13 pm

Firstly hi to everybody.

I am a UK citizen looking for work in the oil and gas industry.

I have 18 years experience as a machinist (cnc and conventional).

Are there any guys living in Singapore who can point me in the right

direction?

Thanks in advance

As a tradesperson, you would have a difficult time in Singapore as the salaries paid to tradesmen is a pittance in comparison. If you are looking to go into the O&G industry you need to get hired via an outfit in the UK and sent overseas. Singapore only has refining capabilities and ship/rig building industries but again, the tradespersons are usually imported from the 3rd world countries where salaries are extremely low.

Offshore construction/exploration hiring is mostly done via the home countries of the individual service/contracting/drilling/oil companies.

Currently there are a couple of large Oil & Gas refinery expansion projects on the go in Singapore (clients: shell and exxon mobil) the main contractors are worley and foster wheeler.

A company called mcconnell dowell may hire people with a skill set like yours, you can find their details online. They are also involved in the above projects.

If you are seriously interested, try looking through some of the online job sites for the names mentioned above. Quite a few recruiters for Singapore jobs advertise on the NZ and Auz job sites.

Rumors have it there is a LNG regasification project kicking off in the near future.

Some background; The majority of the oil and gas work is performed on or around jurong island. Exxon's plant is on jurong, Shell's is on another smaller island called Pulau Bukom (near by). Keppel (jack up drilling riggs etc...) are built close to the island too.

It would be better for you to arrange a job before traveling over. the main reason is your package would most likely be better and the company would organise visa's etc...for you. less hassle.
