Couldn't find a forum to suit!
This afternoon I listened to Gadhafi, Ahmadinejad & Obama in succession live (I'm on the East Coast of the US at the moment). I'm not sure who is the bigger baffoon. Once has to wonder when Gadhafi praising Obama who is the bigger fool, the world or the American public. Especially in view of the recent Acorn relevations which I watch unfold the past two weeks here. Now with the additional delays in closing Gitmo, IRS distancing themselves from ACORN and the general ramming through of the Health Care reforms and the latest "directive" to health insurance companies not to say anything regarding how much health care services are going to be cut (with the non-partisian oversight committee agreeing that it is impossible not to cut services with the amounts being talked about). I have to wonder where the country is going. It would seem that many, many promises (if not all) have already been broken or modified to such an extent that even some of the Dems are starting to back off. Where are we going? I might have to think about selling the farm and staying here (or in a neighbouring country?). I'm getting seriously worried about the future of our country. SE, I hope to hell you are right. But as I've said, during the primaries, I'll reserve judgment. I had my doubts and my fears are getting stronger as time goes by and the links to shady ties come out more and more.

I dont know much but from the outside I am not sure what amercians are getting scared about health care reform. Its not its exactly working in the first place. My mate was recently admitted to hsopital in LA after a 4 day bender on piss and burgers. Just needed a drip and an overnight stay because he had asthma probelms. The bill was $12,000. Such a joke.
I remember the scene in LA of the cleaner vaccuming around someone who had died in the waiting room and then leaving without notifying anyone. The whole health care reform needs to happen world wide with the ageing population. Unless there is a massive import of third world nurses there will be no one to run the hospitals in western countries. It dosent make sense that you could pay a doctor from cuba next to nothing and doctors in the USA are bleeding the system dry and pushing drugs for kickbacks from the pharmacutical companies.

Yes, I know there are problems with the health care system there. But when you stand to lose services due to your age, or being fined for not having ir being able to afford to buy insurance or if electing NOT to buy it it's rediculous and not the answer. I've not got any problems with overhauling the system, I've got a problem with it not being done properly without the necessary checks & balances. Who's gonna pay for it? And can the US afford to pay for it? No. It's gonna put us on a similar footing the National Health in the UK and I believe that has already be shown to be a National Disgrace. If we would work more towards curing obesity it would go a lot further. And now he's put us into a situation in Afganistan where we could end up with another Vietnam (Been there and done that!) A war we cannot win no matter what we do. He's scary.

Not quite sms the problems with the National Health Service in the UK are largely down to its' administration rather than funding. Suggest getting rid of it to most Britons and you will find yourself unpopular to say the least. Although most of us believe we will end up with the same situation as America - damned yanks.sundaymorningstaple wrote: It's gonna put us on a similar footing the National Health in the UK and I believe that has already be shown to be a National Disgrace.

i won't go into the whole healthcare debate right now as i don't have the necessary information or good overview of it (and my views would be impartial anyway as a medical professional).sundaymorningstaple wrote:And now he's put us into a situation in Afganistan where we could end up with another Vietnam (Been there and done that!) but what i do know about the war in afghanistan is that a thorough review of goals/feasibility will be conducted before additional troops will be deployed. meanwhile the planned withdrawal of troops from iraq is still taking place.
between the two countries, the insurgents exists within them hills and mountains of afghanistan, and any calculated/planned increase in troops is done with a view of ensuring the safety of americans all round the world.
what's more, obama cannot be blamed for the whole afghanistan shebang. not far fetched; we can only blame ourselves over how W and his cronies managed to slip into the white house.
while you may be right, that there might be no winner in this war of ideologies, it would not make strategic sense if the united states portrays itself as being capable of withstanding abuse and accepting acts of terrorism committed against its territories and people.
i spent my college years and then some in NYC. i've lost friends in the twin tower attacks. i say go get 'em with everything we've got.
