Anyone bicycle to Raffles?

Post by aargon » Mon, 21 Sep 2009 8:35 pm

I`m going to be working in Raffles and considering bicycling there in the morning (subject to there being showers in the office).

Anyway, wondering if anyone else bikes to work, and if so, where do they park their bikes.

thanks

i don't believe you'll find it very enjoyable, especially in raffles place, unless you're a real hard core cyclist. some people DO bike to work.

5 of my teenaged years in singapore was spent sport cycling twice a day on less complex roads with more manageable traffic.

vehicles never took note of us then, and i doubt they will now. i dare say since drivers disregard motorcyclists, they'll do the same to a bicyclist.

and if you don't have a secure place to lock your bike (that's right), it is likely to get stolen. bike theft is common in singapore.

there are few companies in singapore that are bicycle friendly. i know shimano does, and a few other MNCs...

but one thing they have in common is they're all NOT located in the city where space is at a premium and not usually owned by the company.

times have changed and i could well be wrong, but you have been warned. do give us a report on cycling to work when you're here.

edit: too much details! good luck with the facilities!

It wasn't in the newspapers sometime ago that there's this bike parking shop service with showers in the raffles area. With a quick google I think it was this one:

http://www.thebikeboutique.com/our-stores.php?store=sg

There might be another one too. but yes, you'll have to pay for the service anyway, but you'll be fresh when you arrive to office.

i bike to work everyday (raffles)
and its fun and totally saves environment and money!

my office has bike parking and showers so no issues there.

if urs doesnt, u can park your bike at bike boutique. they also keep your clothes (washed n ironed) ready for u after shower.. all for a price though..
happy biking.

TBB costs are about S$350 a quarter for the full service. It is a great idea.
