TV compatibility with Japan

Post by aargon » Sun, 20 Sep 2009 6:16 pm

Hi everyone,

I will be relocating from Japan shortly and was wondering whether my 46inch Plasma TV (bought in Japan) will work in Singapore.

I`ve heard stories that the TVs in Japan are digital and specifically made for the Japan market, hence will not work overseas. I also plan to subscribe to cable TV, so wondering whether these channels will work as well.

Appreciate any feedback or experiences people have.

Thanks

unless your plasma is multi-system, it wont work. japan system is NTSC and singapore is PAL.

But just to complicate things: If you don't intend to use the TV for on air, you could hook it up to a multi-system DVD recorder with inputs for PAL and outputs for NTSC. So, you hook cable box into DVD recorder and run TV from it. A web search turns up several models.

Thanks for the replies. Worst case scenario (assuming I cant sell it here before I leave), I`ll use it just to watch DVDs.....
