Public Playgrounds near Upper Orchard Rd / Tanglin Area

Post by Lauren212 » Mon, 14 Sep 2009 8:19 am

Does anyone know of some good public playgrounds near upper part of Orchard Road or a close taxi trip away?

We play in the Botanical Gardens and walk to their Children's Garden in BT. We play in our blding's playground (very small!) and so we're looking for some other good alternatives to get out my 20 month year old's energy out throughout the day.

Thanks!

You might want to try the Jacob Ballas Childrens Garden :)

Nothing I can think off, most of the large condos around here all have private playgrounds. There are paid play areas like, gymboree, and go go something at Dempsy hill or Tree house at Friven (the old tanglin post office).

The cost of the land around the top end of Orchard makes public playgrounds economically unfeasible.

Botanical gardens is huge should keep the kid lost for days.

Theres a huge playground area on the west coast park near Macdonalds. (bit of a trek from orchard though)

Yep, we do the trek to the children's garden at least twice a week, but am wondering if there's anything closer or something new - - we don't mind taking a short taxi/bus ride either to it!

Hi there - here's a couple of indoor options for you - I'm a bit of an expert as I have very fair children!

Try the 5th floor of Paragon Shopping Centre in Orchard Road. Range of ride-on machines and a small playground. Bring your coins though - most of the small rides cost - but I can't go past that place without my 20 month old daughter demanding to ride on the Thomas the Tank merry-go-round...!

Another option is the Forum Mall in Orchard. They have a small indoor playground (you pay $11 membership for a year!) and it's a super clean little play area for the kids. It's by the Early Learning Centre store.

It's a little bit further for you to go - but we love Royce Kids Gym at Liang Court in Clarke Quay. Open on pub holidays too!!

There is a great little playground in Watten Estates - I think it's called Watten Heights Playground. If you take Bukit Timah to Watten Estate Road - just keep following it all the way around to the left until you see a little park. It's fantastic for the little ones - a little climbing frame, 4 swings, and a big circular path for scooting or bicycles. It's usually pretty shady. You can take a taxi there - will be about 5 minutes - and if you walk around the corner to Greenwood Avenue there are a lot of little restaurants and they will call you a taxi for pick up (it's a residential area).

Royce Kids Gym on level 2 of Liang Court Shopping Centre is nice and clean and safe. I frequent the gym at least once per week but is moving away from that area very soon. But I still have lots of that gym fun play ticket with no expiry dates. Any one if keen to purchase $100 value ticket for 10 hours at $80.

anyone notice that vacant patch of green on the corner of Tomlinson and Cuscaden Road? How nice would it be to have an outdoor playground there for all the kiddies to use!

Anyone know how to write the local council to perhaps request one?

I remember seeing a proposal for a condo there by kerry hill architects ?

Which means it probably already owned by a developer, and I can guarantee they wont be interested in paying for play ground there!

I was just thinking that yesterday b/c I walk by it every morning and it's such a prime spot for developers. It's like the building on the corner of Orchard Blvd and Tomlinson (the white one with the red trim) - my friend had to move out of there 2 years ago b/c they were building something and it's STILL sitting there untouched!

Try IMM @Jurong East...free shuttle bus fr. the Jurong East MRT station.
Free parking at IMM for 1st 3 hours if you drive.

There is a good Indoor PLayground which comes with a water area (fountains/spray jets) for pure wet fun on Level 2?! (near escalators). Bring along wet suit for the litte one. Just ask the customer service or any other people if you are not sure.

IMM will also be hosting a foam party for adults & kids alike on 4, 5 dec fr. 4-9pm; 7-11Dec fr.6-9pm, 12 & 13 dec fr. 4-9pm...at Level 3.

I am going there with my little girl!! haha.a...
