HDB or Heartland

Post by clky0036 » Thu, 10 Sep 2009 4:03 pm

Hi, I just came to Singapore for 1 month. I keep reading about HDB and heartland. Can anyone please explain to me what it really means? Seems like this is the general term used for the apartments here.

I read that there are many great shopping places in the heartland, anyone can tell me more about it please? Thank you! :D

Welcome to Singapore, CLKY0036.

HDB means Housing Development Board. It also means literally flats from the Government and not from the private sector.

Heartland you could take it as a "town". These days you do not need to go to Orchard for shopping or catch a movie. You could go to Ang Mo Kio or Sengkang, or Tampines etc etc etc where there are big shopping Malls (AMK Hub, Compass Point in SengKang and Tampines 1, Tampines Mall and Century Sq all 3 in Tamines alone.).

Hope it's clearer to you now.

Basically both HDB and Heartland refers to the same.

Just that as mentioned, HDB are housing provided by the Government
and you buy or rent from Housing Development Board

wherby Heartland are the little pockets of "town" created by the Government to segment the entire housing district in Singapore.

Of cause, you have to decide carefully which Heartland you be moving into as each have its own shopping malls and transport terminals
