getting a job in Singapore at the minute?
I'm 29 years old, and have a media/communications degree, from a pretty good University.
I've been working for the last 4 years, for a blue chip publisher, in a sort of an editorial assistant role. So I'd say I'm pretty experienced in the industry.
I'm also a syndicated web journalist - meaning I write for a sort of agency, and stories are picked up by professional news outlets. Had a few stories on CBS/CNN/FOX in the states.
I've read a few articles on here, about the recession, and how this is making things hard - but this kind of contradicts what my brother told me, when I was out there last (as in a week a go). Where he said that things are actually pretty good now, and I could probably get a publishing job.
He also told me that I may be in a decent industry as well, for expats - on the basis that Asian publishers tend to hire a lot of Brits - especially with decent writing experience. On the basis that the levels of written English in Singapore, even amongst grads and publishing professionals, is maybe a bit errr shaky?
I've surfed the net, and seen an abundance of publishing jobs in Singapore. Many more than you tend to see in my area in the UK. And I appear to be qualified for quite a few. I've seen maybe 10, that (if it was in the UK) I'd fancy my chances with.
I was just wondering whether I'm maybe missing something here? As in, 99% of these jobs, I won't stand a chance with, as I'm an ex pat?
Or, would I maybe stand a good chance, from a bit of a lucky degree/career choice?
