GETTING PR FOR MY SON

Post by jothi1983 » Fri, 28 Aug 2009 8:23 pm

Hello,
Iam homemaker staying in India. My husband works in singapore. Already we jointly applied for PR when i were in Singapore. Now my husband ha applied for PR for himself alone. Will my son be committed for military service at singapore if we apply PR for him? Now he is 3 months old.
Kindly clear my doubt.

There is no doubt about it. You son takes up PR, he will have to do National Service unless he gives up his PR before his 13th birthday. EOS.

It depends on when you & your son give up your PR. If you wait longer than his 12th birthday you may find that he may never be able to work in Singapore in the future as he will be considered a deserter and would be subject to fine or jail or both.

If you follow the proper protocols as have been already outlined in various threads and stickies here, then you should not have any problems, but if you just think out of sight, out of mind, then your are playing with your son's future and you could cripple his future opportunities as a adult.

My suggestion? If you are taking up PR only to abuse the system here, don't. The country doesn't need that kind of PRs. Leave PR for those who actually want to stay here for the long term.
