Demand for the building/remodelling trade

Post by amycbarnes » Thu, 27 Aug 2009 5:23 pm

My husband and I are thinking of relocating to Singapore. He works for himself doing home remodeling.

Does anyone know what the market demand for builders, plumbers, electricians, etc is in Singapore?

If there is a higher demand for certified plumbers for example, he can try to focus on that trade.

Many thanks, Amy

Forgeddit. Trades people here earn diddly-squat unless they own the business. And there are literally 100's of remodeling outfits here. Tell you what, look up any of the housing trades you can think of here:

He cannot just waltz in here and set up shop. He would have to apply for an EntrePass from the MOM (Ministry of Manpower) unless he was planning on being a employee. Employees in the trades here make pitiful salaries. Matter of fact, without starting his own company, it's doubtful that the MOM would even consider a westerner to work in that kind of industry.

Just to add to SMS... are you coming in on the employment pass? If yes, then your hubby, with his dependent's pass could probably get a registered business and start to work.

Even in his own business he will find rates are below other areas of the world.
