Health Insurance for family of 4 from Germany

Post by maybemover » Tue, 25 Aug 2009 8:12 pm

Hi you all,

we might move to Singapore end of this year with a family of 2 adult and 2 kids (9 and 12) from Germany to Singapore with a local contract.

Are here any Germans who can give me an advice for a good health insurance that will be equal to the german social system or a little bit better.
We do not need coverage for pregnancy ;-)

The insurance company my husbands company told us, is not good, they do not cover any "health problems" which occured in front of the stay in singapore (f.e. teeth corrections)

Thanks a lot for your help in advance,

Sabine

Try the search function with the keyword 'insurance'. Lots of threads on the subject of health insurance.

Hi Strong Eagle,

thanks for the information. I already searched with health insurance and insurance but did not find what i am looking for.

Maybe here is a german family who could help me with an answer on this question, because as it seems it is totally different, depending from which country you are moving/ or which country is your home country.

Thanks
Sabine

Relocating to Singapore and Health Insurance for Four

Post by Harlequin » Tue, 25 Aug 2009 10:15 pm

Hi, Maybemover,

There are many insurance brokers in Singapore that can help you and all major internationally operating health insurers are also active there.
I am representing one of the major German health insurers and have responsibility for Asia, but I don't want to break any rules here by posting my company details.
If you don't succeed in finding a solution please forward your eMail address and I will send you literature.

Regards
Kaveh

You will find that dental and medical plans are usually completely separate. Therefor all I can recommend you is to shop around. But if you keep in mind that a visit to a local physician for the flu etc. including medication will come in at maybe SGD 30 to 40 it might be cheaper if you just opt for a hospital cover in case of severe illness or accident. Dental treatments are also extremely cheap. You can get a filling with x-ray at around SGD 80 and a general check-up with polishing is probably around SGD 40, so not really expensive. Another benefit of paying for this kind of smaller treatments is that you can visit any practice you want and don't need to travel to the nearest approved practice.

So yeah: my advice is to insure severe illness and accidents only.

agree with littlegreenman.

not sure abt medical expenses cost in germany but Singapore outpatient services are not expensive. However, hospitalisation cost can be quite severe, esp if you are not subsidised and prefers private hospitals. So getting a good hospitalisation plan is critical and just self insure the basic outpatient! unless you visit the doc like 5-10 times a yr, it doesnt quite make sense to go for outpatient cover!
