Just moved to Fraser Place Need Play date for 22 month girl

Post by slbrown » Wed, 19 Aug 2009 5:15 pm

We just moved here from Houston, Texas (US) and would like to find a playgroup for my daughter who will be 2 in October. She misses her friends at home. We will be staying at the Fraser Place Robertson Walk until May.

Re: Fraser Place Playgroup

I was informed that not a lot of people know where Fraser Place is. It is near Clark Quay. I wanted to be invited to place groups or field trips others are taking.
Thanks so much!!!

My daughter just turned 2 years old and we will be arriving Singapore next month. We are contemplating between Fraser Place or Ascott Raffles Place for our 1st month Service Apartment. Do you like it there so far? Is there a kids playroom? A good breakfast is also important to me and my Japanese wife. How is the variety at your breakfast each morning? Ascott Raffles Place has complimentary breakfast at its restaurant Julien Bompard, though its just a small variety of around 10 choices.

We are also investigating playgroups and would share information once we get any as our kids are about the same age.
Philchee,

Fraser Place and the area around is nice. There is a small kids playroom, as well as an outdoor playground and kids pool. They breakfast is OK. They will cook you eggs to order, and have a selection of fruits, breads, and cereal. They also have about 2-3 hot items on a small buffet. It is OK for us, as we usually do not eat a large breakfast.

It seems Somerset Liangcourt has some renovation works and would be noisy. A negative point in Fraser Place though is that local calls are not free though Pan Pacific Suite offered that. But I like the shuttle service at Fraser Place. Have you found them reliable and sticking to the schedule?

Have you met other mothers at the playroom yet?
I have not met anyone that has the same age children as mine.

Hello, I just wanted to offer an opinion on the Fraser Serviced Apartments.
I'm staying at Fraser Suites but was at Fraser Place the other day and asked to take a look around in case we wanted to move between them.

I decided I'm happy to stay at Fraser Suites for the following reasons:

The indoor playroom at FS is more than twice as large as FP - big enough that my 4 y.o can build obstacle courses. My nearly 2 y.o loves it too.
The indoor playroom has two computers so parents can check emails quickly while the kids are playing. There is also an outdoor playground just off the indoor one with a cubby, swings, slide, as well as a basketball court where they can ride trikes, bikes with training wheels and a Little Tikes car. There is another small playground near the swimming pool. Oh, and there are free video games for older kids in a room off the main playroom (safety gate stops little kids getting in).

The FP indoor playroom seemed much more suited to kids under 2 years old. Also, when I looked at an apartment I was surprised by how much smaller it seemed to FS. The galley kitchen would mean you couldn't cook and keep an eye on the kids. And the man who showed me the room mentioned that it can get pretty noisy at night when people gather at the bars and restaurants downstairs.

The same shuttle busses service both FP and FS - they're great! My husband catches the work shuttle and the kids and I use the other two almost every day. The distance between FP and FS is about five minutes drive - if that. And FS also has a Cold Storage downstairs and a few restaurants (admitedly not as many as FP but then it's not as touristy around FS so the prices seem cheaper...).

I have been really impressed by Fraser Suites. Sure, we've had a few problems with appliances but they organised a brand new washing machine and a replacement dryer the day after I mentioned minor problems with the ones we had. The staff is lovely. There seems a lot more outdoor space at FS than FP: if we want a change from the playroom or playground, my kids and I have lunch and hang out on a big, safe deck (away from the pools) with lots of outdoor tables shaded by umbrellas with fans to keep it cool.

Hope this helps anyone with kids make a decision between the two...

I can't comment on the Asian breakfast selection, I'm sorry. It's there, but I haven't tried it. Perhaps you could ask Fraser Place if they serve the same things at both sites... The western breakfast has a decent selection of cereals, breads, cold meat, cheese, yoghurt, fruit, tea, coffee, juice. There are different pastries, muffins and hot savoury things each day - I've seen people with waffles, eggs, things like that.

The nearest mall would be Great World City: an easy ten minute walk (though that was with kids so it'd be quicker without!). I've caught cabs to Orchard Road during the day and it's only been $5, and you're close to Tanglin.

I'm told the train station is a ten minute walk, too, though I haven't tried it. I walked from Fraser Place to Clarke Quay MRT a few days ago and I think that would have been a ten minute walk. (Incidentally, I stopped at the shopping mall above the MRT, called Central or something similar. It seemed to have a lot of Japanese stores you might be interested in.)

Fraser Place is definitely in a more lively, touristy area than Suites. If you want somewhere to walk out the door and select from a wide variety of restaurants and bars then Place would have to be your choice. Suites has a few restaurants downstairs and five minutes walk away there's a strip of good restaurants towards Great World City. There are also a lot of restaurants in Great World City.

Apparently it does get noisy around Robertson Walk. My husband went there one night after work and said the courtyard downstairs was packed with people. If you want more reviews, I read some for both places, as well as Somerset Liang Court, on tripadvisor.com (quite a few complain about the noise at Fraser Place).

Hope that helps. Good luck!

I don't think the spa offers free treatments but I'm looking into it for you - haven't had time off from kids to try it myself!

There are signs in public places about the free family zoo pass so I think that's definitely still on offer.

It's hard making a decision based on so many varied reviews. My advice would be not to expect a five star hotel experience, despite the claim of five stars for these apartments. I've been told Serviced Apartments are all a bit run down, but although I don't feel like I'm living at the Shangri La or the Mandarin Oriental we are perfectly comfortable (more so now we've had a few things replaced that weren't working).

Hope you're happy with where you wind up or that you can change if it doesn't suit you!
