Try typing "www.orkut.com" into the address bar and tell us if it works.

Okay first of all and most important you should ditch the Internet Explorer. Therefor please google for Mozilla Firefox and download this browser. Much better and secure and faster than IE as many will be able to confirm.

Your problem sounds a lot like having to do with the DNS server. The DNS server resolves the name (ie. www.google.com.sg) to the IP address. So if using firefox doesn't work we will have to look into this and maybe put you on a third part DNS server.

Let us know once you installed Firefox and we will go from there if it still doesn't work.

Oh, sorry about that. I totally missed that. Weird.

Okay, try one thing first before we change the DNS. Try de-activating Norton for 5 mins first. You can do this by right-clicking on the icon on the lower right and then choose de-activate. Then try opening gmail. If that works, great! If not, then activate norton again.

If de-activating Norton didn't work go here and choose your operating system and then follow the step by step instructions to change your DNS server to open DNS. You DO NOT have to create a user account (step 2), you don't really need it.

I'd say you are infected with spyware and malware. You need to run a scan with at least Spybot Search and Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html) and Windows Defender (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/produc ... fault.mspx)

Also I wanted to go to Popular bookshop website..and I google searched it...and when I clicked on it...same thing...it redirected to mynovelty....etc etc...but then it did take me to the popular website...is it redirecting to my novelty coz i put those dns numbers??

Megha,

Norton is not a very good product. It is pricey and looks posh but is only average and its spyware protection is not very good. If spybot showed you as having 300 items then there certainly is a lot of junk on your system that went undetected by Norton. There are many programs out there that are free, so you should be able to fix this without spending more money on software.

Next step would be to download lavasoft's adware remover. You can use the free version which should be sufficient for your problem. Download link

It will offer you to buy the pro version but as mentioned, the standard version should do the job for the moment.

So just download, install and run and see what it finds and hopefully removes. Also as the DNS server was not the problem you can remove the DNS settings for Open DNS.

if your PC is infested with malware (or spyware), antivirus sometimes doesnt pick it up. this is what you need to clean up your laptop...

www.malwarebytes.org and www.superantispyware.com.

both are freeware for personal use.
