Japanese community in Singapore?

I would like to know if there is a Japanese community in Singapore, how they are viewed by the locals and where they are located.

There is a large Japanese community but I don't believe there is as much interaction as some of the other expat groups.

I'm Canadian, my wife is Sg Chinese and we have very good Japanese friends who lived in Sg for 10+ years and took the time to get involved in the local scene. They loved it and although they have now moved back to Tokyo, they still keep in close touch with all their local friends (and expats like me) with several visits a year and we spend a week at their place each year.

Singapore is like most of humanity, it isn't so much the race, or society, but instead the individual and their actions that dicates the experience and reception. Hope that makes sense.

A short explanation as to why I was asking this question :

Actually, I'm not Japanese, I'm French, but the only foreign languages I can speak are English and Japanese.

And to be honest, in term of socialization, I'm more at ease with the japanese language than with the english one

That's why it would be a great bonus if I could also interact with japanese people during my stay.

I guess I will have to spy at the japanese restaurants
