where to buy foreign newspapers

Post by wino » Wed, 05 Aug 2009 12:47 pm

Does anyone know where you can buy foreign (UK) newspapers at a reasonable price anywhere near Holland Village? I know the news-stand near Cold Storage has them but my Dad said a Sunday Telegraph (a few days old) there cost $28!?! I doubt if they could charge this if there was anywhere else to go but you never know!

I know you can read most papers online but my Dad likes a paper version...

You can try the Airport booksellers, they usually have foreign newspapers. Also, maybe a sundries shop in one the 5 star hotels?

Yes, wasn't sure if their prices were reasonable considering the distance travelled - can't see why anyone would want a paper that badly!?! Suggested my Dad try and sell him his copy of yesterday's Independent :)

There was a news stand in Harbour Front MRT near the exit towards the bus terminal. They had plenty of foreign newspapers and magazines. No idea about pricing and whether it is still there though.

Jenny - has your dad thought about some of the online subscription offerings? SOME have an option where you will get the printed copy cheaper if you take both the online and print version. Might be worth investigating?

Thanks Mr P. He's only here for a few weeks but I'll mention it to him. Cheers!
