Uhoh, that sounds like trouble to me. Since we're planning to go on 7th or 8th, things might not look so good...
why?? what is the problem?? Its not a problem the tide. The tide only is a few hours and i think at night, right?
the combo 1 (Tioman 2 days + Rawa 1 day) sounds good but I checked the google maps and i saw that Rawa and Pulau Besar are veeery near and then, Tioman is far from this 2 islands. But I dont mind, Tioman is the biggest island and maybe more to offer us...is ok 2 days in this island.

Well, I was just thinking if the island was all slushy, it would be a little troublesome. I might be totally wrong though.
And yeah, I'm open to Pulau Besar, if you think it's good, great, we might either stay over there or maybe drop over for a day or less... lets see.
Also, I think we need to make reservations by the end of the week. The tioman site has some nice resort suggestions that amount to about 150 SGD for 3 nights per person on a twin-sharing basis which sounds quite reasonable...unless you want to go there and bargain, we could surely use some local knowledge- the link I posted on Tioman and Rawa has some good suggestions and reommends us to "just show up" and look around. I think that would be a better option.
Costs anticipated so far - all in SGD (rounded off, somewhat pessimistic)
Travel
To and Fro to mersing - 70
Mersing to/fro Tioman - 60
Tioman to/fro Rawa - 40
Rawa to/fro Pulau Besar 40
Stay- if in Tioman 2d 150
Stay- Rawa/PB 1 d 70
Intermediate transport 200 (yes, I know)
Food, drinks (basic) 150
-----------------------------------
780 Whoa!
But of course this is the worst case in which we pay a lot of premium. The places where we might be able to save is the hotel and intermediate transport. So if we haggle well, the hotel might cost us about 70 less (in all) and if we use ferries for moving around the same island, the transport will be cut down by more than 120. This brings us to a somewhat optimistic figure of 590. I think that's not really a bad figure...
Lets see how many are interested now!

hey dude, so pessimistic!! remember the currency is in ringgits and is 'allowed' to bargain hehe. Forme will be around 500SGD visiting tioman and one island more (rawa or pulau besar)
In my opinion the price is ok, because actually if u book a flight, only the ticket for the same dates are around 380SGD or 440SGD (i repeat, only the flight..)
Well, im going to sleep. Tomorrow, more

hehe, thanks to you too.
So it's final then? that it's two or more of these islands.
When do we start? on friday itself or on sat? Starting on sat would be a waste of precious time. But friday night might get us too late at Mersing and am not sure about the availability/safety of ferry at that time?
What's your take c?

I think maximum 2 island, no more. (is my opinion)
the main idea is start on friday and spend the maximum time in this islands...but yes, i dont know the timetable from Mersing to the islands. Any webpage to see the trips from Mersing to this islands?
On the other hand, i have malasyan friends and told me that from JB to Mersing is around 5-6 SGD (one way). But...maybe is more easy take the bus form SG directly to Mersing...

Yeah 2 is fine.
I checked the timetables. One problem I see is that suppose we start on friday, we can start only after work- that would be lets say 7/8 pm. And it is 4-5 hours to Mersing (atleast) whichever way we go (via JB or direct) so that would bring us to Mersing somewhere between 11-1 in the night.
C, though via JB, fares might be a bit cheaper, it's much more convenient to go directly because otherwise we'll all be tired by the time we get there and we don't want to waste a holiday sleeping late!

*
Many ferry operators operate boats and ferries between Mersing and Tioman several times a day.
*
Amongst the most reliable, Blue Water Speedboats (Tel: 607-7995696) operates its first speedboats from Mersing at 7.30 a.m. and its last ones at about 4.30 p.m. depending on tides.
*
Tickets cost RM35 one way. From Tioman, the first boat leaves at 8.00 a.m and the last at about 4.30 p.m. daily.

http://www.malaysiasite.nl/tiomaneng.htm
So there's not much point in starting on friday evening
as we won't be able to get the ferry at all! (provided this info is correct) - can anybody confirm the accuracy of this?
also,
Remember however, that if you leave Singapore too late, you might not be able to catch a ferry or speedboat in Mersing the same day. It's always best to try to be there as early as possible
from
http://www.malaysiasite.nl/transporttiomaneng.htm
Also, other sites seem to be showing last ferry trips at around 3-4 pm

That still won't work! If we start by 12 even, we'll only be at Mersing by 6.
I think we might need to slightly alter our plans if we want to utilize all three days. How about stopping over at Mersing and taking the 630 am ferry to Tioman? I think we should be able to get some cheap backpackers' nightstay and that way we may also sample a bit of Mersing night life (if any at all)
or
maybe we can go stargazing -

How does it sound?

Sounds fine to me. I'm not keen on seeing a thousand places and not getting to enjoy any. We might as well see a few good places in a relaxed manner and enjoy ourselves (it's a vacation after all)
So yeah, that's fine C.
I guess we just have to wait and see if anybody else joins us, or we'll just go ahead.
I called up some travel agencies to check availability. The one I called said that all reservations were full for that period to Tioman.
Do you think we should book in advance as it is a peak period and it's better not to be surprised.

Ok, then...only Tioman.
yes, I prefer book the hotel because I think is not problem take the bus or boat, because there are a lot.
Let me know If u need help to find some hotel or nice hostel (i dont mind, but please, no Hilton or similars haha
)
Tioman is the most common island visited by a lot of people and maybe all is booked. In this situation, we can go to other island (Pulau Besar) and if also is all booked, Rawa or other (i check in the website there are more nice islands than this 3)
