looking for a shipping job

Post by Margii » Thu, 23 Jul 2009 9:40 pm

Hi,

I have been considering moving to Singapore to live for a couple of years or longer. I have been looking at job opportunties in Singapore, in the Container Shipping Industry as I have 5 years experience behind me in that field.
If anyone has any information regarding searching for a job in this industry or any contacts, I would love to receive them.

Thank you.

Try the Classified section in the local birdcage liners for a start or the online job boards......

However, if you are not a citizen or PR you might have a problem as PSA has it's own school here and there are heaps of locals with lots of experience in this area. After all, it is the busiest container port in the world I believe.

I think you will be seriously struggling.

Shipping and Logistics is what Singapore DOES and IS. This is the whole reason for Singapore's being, and certainly it's current placement. Trade and Transhipping.

This means there is a lot of experience here. Now, balance that with a drop off if trade and transhipping of 30-40% through the local ports and you might argue we already have an overcapacity of personnel within the industry.

Unless you are a Specialist, Company Owner or Senior Management i think it will be tough.

My business is loosly connected to the trade and is letting go of 50% of local staff.
