Can anyone recommend a good firm for local removals?

Post by iain_c » Thu, 23 Jul 2009 5:38 pm

Our landlord has decided to sell our condo less than a month after we moved in (before you ask I'm sure it's coincidence!)

So we need Pickfords or a man-with-a-van to move our stuff from Choa Chu Kang to Buona Vista sometime in the next week or two.

Can anyone recommend a reliable firm and give me a rough idea of how much I should pay?

Alternatively has anyone moved their own gear? My UK car licence is valid up to 7.5 tonnes. Is the local limit similar and can you hire big vans cheaply here?

Thanks

Why should you need to move out?

Unless the tenancy agreement you signed is different from a standard one, in which a property is sold with tenancy, meaning you, the tenant gets to stay on in accordance with the terms of the agreement except that you get a new landlord.

I've used this guy several times over the last couple of years to move big items for me: Nigel 92709182 - but he's also moved a friend into a smaller flat with all the belongings. He is super reliable and honest.

i like Elite Movers, moved our 300 boxes from one apt to another with no issues. Big teak cabinets with glass sides came by also no problems. They are super fast in packing and unpacking too.

I have used this guy Vincent @94528587, his rates are extremely competitive (or should I say, cheap), though his timing is a bit off (he is always about an hour late). Its alright if you have a day off, and can afford to wait around for the Movers to come.

He gave me 30 boxes free as well, to box up all my stuff, etc. His man are very efficient, and can move for small apartments to big offices.

I used Lianhe Trading last week (on a recommendation) and they were cheap, fast and did a good job. I did the packing they did the moving. They did provide boxes.

Yeo w6463 2356 m9185 8091. Mobile is better.

Thanks for the replies folks.

Unfortunately we just got outbid on the Buona Vista place so things are no longer quite so urgent. I'll be grateful for your leads when we find a new place though.

Teck21, according to our agent it seems the landlord can do this and the new owner wants to move in. The really annoying aspect is that he (landlord) almost certainly knew he had a prospective buyer who wanted to occupy when he leased us the flat (I've met the buyer and he told me his business base is local and that's why he wants to live here).

I want to second some of the opinions on Nigel 92709182, I found him here on this forum. He's nice, efficient and careful with my items. I was charged 80 hourly and he did get the job done fast. I was only moving 30 boxes or so but I'm extremely satisfy with his service. I was only expecting 1 person but he brought along 2 others, he also has a big truck so i assume he can also move big and small things.

There's also Shalom Movers. They are one of the biggest companies that deal with such matters.

Looking for exactly this - local Singapore Movers, moving about 10KM, the posts here look pretty old, we went back to Shalom and found their quote to be outrageously expensive this time (they were reasonable last time). Any one have any good suggestions? We are moving EVERYTHING! in a 3 bed apartment.

Cheers

Not tried any of them. Perhaps you can call them to compare rates.

Rates are one thing, I can do that, although, they will all want me to stay in for a morning whilst they rifle through my things to give me a quote, I am not necessarily looking for the cheapest company, but, looking more for a personal recommendation of a company that someone has used and found to be good.
