Questions about Condo living

Post by tanusa » Tue, 21 Jul 2009 4:09 am

Hello. I'm wondering if anyone could please let me know what it's like living in a condo in Singapore. Is it pleasant? Are there neighbor issues? Is it quiet? Loud? Are the condos nice? Do they have balconies large enough to actually use? Can you put furniture out on the balconies? Like a table, chairs, etc.? Is the street noise loud? Can you hear people walking around on the floor above you?

I currently live in a detached house with a small backyard in the US. Up until a few years ago, I lived in a New York City condo, which had it's issues. In New York, the experience of living in an apartment was dependent on how well the building was built. Some were really solid, so you couldn't really hear your neighbors. Some were not well-built, so you could literally hear everything. Just trying to figure out what to expect in Singapore. I've looked at the photos, etc., online, but you can only tell so much from a picture.

Thank you!

tanusa - You'll probably find it's very similar to NYC - sometimes you get a great unit, sometimes you get a dud. The unit we're in now I can't hear the upstairs neighbors at all - except the shower in the morning. Our last unit I could hear everything above our bedroom (kids running, doors shutting, water flushing) ... but we kept the same hours so really wasn't too bothersome.
Think it depends on your neighbors, when the apt was built...etc. If you find a building you like - post and get some feedback from people who know it or have lived there.

It's like condo's in a big city anywhere in the US or any major city in the world. There are good condo's and there are condo's from hell. You will have to shop around.
