Do not advertise COMMERCIAL events on the forum.

Post by SIEGEturtle » Fri, 10 Jul 2009 2:12 pm

You are welcome to advertise events in the classified section of this site:

http://classifieds.singaporeexpats.com/

But not in the Forums as it is against our Hosts policy.

Qualify that statement above. You are not allowed to post commercial, for profit events in the forums. This includes investment seminars, etc, even if they do not charge a fee for the event itself.

You are allowed to post events that are non-profit in nature (for example, a dragon boat racing team) even if the event costs money to attend.

That's stuffed it. The avalanche has started now. We'll be inundated with every darned pseudo-charity event going now, no matter how big or how small. Oh well.....

It's a hard call because the posters intention may be good but the event organisers stand to make money or the event is not purely non-profit (major advertising link's, follow on business, etc). It's not easy to distinguish between these types of posts. Perhaps we should not allow any form of these post whether non-profit or not. Alternatively give a sub section purely for non-profits and delete all posts made outside that section.

For those listening in we usually talk in the Mods section but since this is here and a couple of other Mods have bought into this already its important for you to understand. We don't get paid for Moderating this forum and the forum is very large, receiving many many post each day. each of which needs to get checked. It's easy to bang on at us that we are Nazi's but in general we keep the forum clean so people can have discussions without wading through Ad's etc. We love little kids and hate to see any one sick (example only) but you would be suprised by how many heartless mongrel dogs post everyday making out they are doing good just to sell product or events.

Before complaining please bear this in mind.

Just to add while some posts are quite obviously blatant advertisements some can be hard to discern as a result some things may have been deleted in error. As bafana says we don't get paid and have work amongst other things to do so some might remain on the board without our knowledge.

And with that, we, as JP says, will go stroke our long flowing beards in meditation/discussion on our board and when the little white puff of smoke appears, we will have hopefully arrived at a decision. (or self-combusted) and a new or modified or unchanged policy will emerge. Until then, we will resume normal broadcasting pending said announcement .......
