Best place to buy Computer Hardware in Singapore?

Post by Jonnyinter » Wed, 24 Jun 2009 11:38 pm

Hey I'm moving back to Singapore (:D) and I want to build a new computer. Where do you recommend I go? The Funan center seems good and seems like it might have reasonable prices. Any suggestions?

P.S. I would like some warranties on my products that might have a chance of failure like hard drives or RAM.

Thanks, Jonny.

If you plan to build from scratch and know what you're looking for i'd go to SLS. Much more choice and stock there.

My personal preference is cybermind ( outlets in SLS and Funan). They are not always the cheapest but i've had some great service from them over the years when it comes to warranty.
Of course there may be others but i've stuck with Cybermind and they've never let me down so far

Good luck

Hi Jonnyinter, the best place to buy computer hardware in Singapore is undoubtedly Sim Lim Square. You may find it overwhelming at first but that's where the best deals are. Although Sim Lim Square is rather notorious for black sheep retailers who rip off tourists, those computer hardware shops are transparent with price lists for customers to refer and make an informed decision.

Funan is cleaner in terms of reputation, subdued and sterile. You can't find much hardware there. It's good for accessories and laptops though.

I also like Sin Lim, I have built 4 computers from high end HTPC machines to lower end network computers - all components from SLS. The golden rule is to do your research first, know what you are looking for (exact model numbers) and don't be upsold - cross-sold. I usually like to deal with ACE on the 5th floor, although they do not have everything I need, they have most components or can get - like the previous poster said, they have published price lists, as do other outlets - ACE will even assemble for you - the warranties are standard for all components and I have never had a problem dealing with these people in SLM - the bad reputation comes mainly from the 1st and 2nd floor where they retail consumer products (cameras, camcorders and the like)

I always buy from shops on the 4th or 5th floor, especially from old-timers like Bell, Fuwell and Video Pro. Those fly-by-night ones I usually avoid as you never know which night they will fly away and never return. I agree that those electronics shops on the 1st and 2nd floor are the worst. The only shop I patronise on the 1st floor is Alan Photo.

Hi Jonny,

I wont reccomand you to Sim Lim. Honestly, consider the place you go when you are shopping for hardwares or softwares. I have personal doubts about that place. It is indeed a one-stop IT mall.. However, the place does not provide a one-stop price.
Maybe you can consider this shop in Eunos, they have repair services and they have really cheap products there as well. Whenever, i have friend from Taiwan who vists me here, she never will miss going there to grab the latest IT products. It is somewhere near the subway station and they are situation just beside a Sushi shop. The company is stop spamming or have your account deleted. Try going there or you can just drop there a call =)

Cheers, and welcome to Singapore =)

SLS is highly recommended (for this kind of parts). I bought over there zillions of hardware and the good thing was always the choice of outlets. Funan used to be a bit more expensive but now many companies got their outlets in both places with the same prices.

Talking of SLS - a kind of phenomenon for me .... unlike for photo/av equipment you can be pretty sure to get fair price. Shopping for the said electronics requires that you know the price up front otherwise you will be easily ripped off. For computer parts you may be price illiterate. At least nothing bad ever happened to me. Perhaps if you know what to do with the bare harddrive or pci card they would assume chances to get some extra money form you are pretty narrow even if you are an Ang Moh.

yup , SLS is the place for PC hardwares

but as some mates here mention'

is also a place where you must be careful of scam shop owners there.

If they see you are not local. They will try to cheat you.

Some shops is good some is bad.

Another place is funan but their price offer there depend what stuffs you need. Some stuffs surprising is cheap there compare to SimLim square.
But in terms of varity , SLS will have more .

sadly in SLS is the only place where there is lot of pc hardwares to scout.
If you don;t want to buy DIY pc

just go to courts ect big electronics store to buy.

If you don;t want to waste time researching and scare been cheated.

Your on-line shop looks even interesting but after you spammed this forum violating clearly stated rules I will never buy anything from you as I will be expecting exactly the same morality.

One thing I was wondering, I'm looking to buy an iPod touch and when you buy one of these the shopowner will register the serial number of the product with apple. Will the shops in SLS do this too as this is a present for someone back home?

I am a local personally have seem for myself those people in sls like to target expats and tourists charged an items at expensive prices..

even I am a local here happen to been cheated before in sls man.

A cable I brought cost 45 bucks whereas happen to go to mustafa same brand same model cost just 25 bucks !
