Live bands in Singapore

Post by topher » Wed, 17 Jun 2009 10:49 pm

Hi There,

relatively new in Singapore and have not found any bars or pubs that play live bands with original music. While I dont mind the odd cover band every now and then it seems that there is very little in terms of local bands or original music.

Anyone know of anywhere?

Thanks.

Hi, I know there are not many original bands on offer except when you see an international one come to town. But there is a really good night every Thursday called Electric Ballroom at Home club near Boat Quay. The bands are a good mix of genre and are impressive and original. The Djs also play indie and alternative music which is one of the main reasons I go. I am from the UK and I miss the music, Home club its also a really cool place as it has a nice vibe. Its well priced at $12 to get in and you get a drink with that. Its on the corner of Upper circular road and New Bridge road facing the river, its on the other side of the road after the white bridge where the taxis stop, boat quay side. I think the building is called Riverwalk. You should check it out.

Hi
TimeOut magazine has a fairly comprehensive listing of who is playing where. Check it out.

I have to say music scene is dead here when it comes to original bands, especially if you are into Metal or Hard Rock.

There are a few decent cover bands in places like Timbre or Orchard as someone mentioned.

But they all repeatedly cover songs like Zombie, Bring me to life, Here without you, lips of an angel and what more?? Ohh yes legendary Sweet Child O Mine.

I've always been a keen admirer of the English music scene. It's definitely difficult to find people of similar music tastes, even in the international scene. I'm a big fan of Jamie T, I've got to say. Anyone up for going down the trip to the Electric Ballroom, hope it won't be a letdown.
