Newbie looking for fellow expat divers and a friendly club

Post by reking » Sat, 13 Jun 2009 3:11 pm

Hi!

I've just arrived to Singapore and looking for a friendly club with recreational divers.. Nothing too commercial with huge no's of courses etc. but more regular meetings and weekend trips..

Used to picking up a tank and diving with friends in Sydney. Does anyone have any recommendations or keen to join me?

Cheers

ps also looking for golf buddies too... :D

Hi, Welcome to Singapore
The diving scene in Singapore / Asia is very different to what you find elsewhere - it is largley run by dive operators. The season for diving off Singapore is from November to February, but that is generally done on one of the smaller outlying islands. There is very little (none?) shore-based diving in SG. The rest of the year the dive operators usually go up to the islands off the east coast of Malaysia - Tioman and Aur. Anything else usually requires a 3 / 4 day trip.
If you are looking to meet up with other divers, there is a singapore diving network on Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id= ... 7947029360 which meets up for drinks every 2nd Tuesday. It is hosted by a dive owner, but all different people come to the evening. There is some additonal info on the scene in SG on the group page.
