Housing Choices near Tanah Merah?

Post by chinaman » Mon, 08 Jun 2009 9:58 am

Myself, my wife and our 18 month old daughter will be moving to Singapore in September.

I will be working from home but flying out to Malaysia a couple of times a month.

My wife would like a house or low rise condominium within walking distance of a wet market. She would prefer an environment where there is some green space for our toddler to play in and where we can get to know the neighbours.

I've done some research on the net and seem to be homing in on the Tanah Merah district near the MRT station - its out on the East Coast, near a market and close to the airport.

Does any body have any experience of this area, recommend any developments that may fit our requirements and give any advice on what we might have to pay for a fully furnished 3 bedder

Any advice gratefully received!

there are many older condominums out at tanah merah area, near the MRT. it's a good choice as it's really close to the airport, even by MRT (save you taxi-ride fare). it's quite near the beach. as for wet markets, you can try to look at this website which has a map of singapore -type in tanah merah station and look around for any wetmarkets.

http://www.map.gov.sg/streetmap/

fully furnished 3-bedder at tanah merah.. could be as low as S$2800 or even less, depending on how old the condo is.

good luck!

Lots of nice places near here, Stratford Court and East Meadows are close to the MRT also there are cluster houses D'manor, Summer Gardens, and The Springfield.

I am probably too late, but I live in Tanah Merah , fly a lot, and really like it. I am in a landed property, not a cluster house - but its a good location for a family, 5 minutes from the mrt (from my place at least). Lots of places seem to be available and several new developme nts are coming on stream.

Cheers

No, not too late at all! I'm just having a look these last few days. Its a beautiful area and lots of places available.

There are a few places available in Stratford Court - but it looks a little close to the railway line to me - anyone with any experience here?

some of them are close to the mrt line but there are many that are not. It's a big rectangle shape with a pool in the middle and only one section is along the mrt line. So there are units there where you wont see/hear the mrt. Definitely worth a look.

you could try the west side as well, that is if you don't mind the extra distance to the airport.

used to live in D'Manor condo 500m from the MRT - it's "cluster houses" instead of the normal condo apartments. Reasonable facilities but found the houses to be hot - little breeze flowing through even with all doors/windows open... just my 2p's worth in case you look at them...

I used to live at bayshore park and i really miss the breeze we got. i have gone from almost no aircon to aircon all the time. apart from that iys a relly nice spot. i fly a lot, and the proximity to the airport is real plus.

we live in Summer Gardens which is really nice. Depending on the unit you get really nice breezes blowing through. No matter where you end up it is good to get somewhere with a cross breeze otherwise it can be a little stifling. :-)
