I've torn ligaments in my knees and they healed but it seemed like it took 6 months. The end of the ligament is thin and doesn't get a lot of blood flow so the Dr. said they heal slowly.
If you elect to, the Dr. can give you an injection of cortisone to reduce the inflammation and pain. (The pain will almost completely disappear) The danger in this is that you might get over confident and return to sports too quickly. Some people think Cortisone is harmful so you might want to Google it and read some of the thoughts before doing it.

Anti inflammatory injections were recommended but unfortunately since returning back from uk, i've become...allergic to nurofen, ibuprofen and the rest of the anti-inflammatory family. strange, never had such an allergy before thats the way it is
Will wait for the MRI results and see what the doc advises. I did this through the local hospital, saved a bit rather than going to the sports clinic at kallang.

As you went for a Gazza specky, I am assuming you did a cruciate ligament as opposed to a medial - could be wrong though. If so, these could take a while to heal without surgery. I think a medial takes about 6 months with no surgery but these are supposedly the 'better' ones to do if there is such a thing. I almost did a medial i.e. tore it but not all the way. No surgery but took 3 mnths before I was back at my weekend warrior best. I am guessing, if it is torn, you will want / need the knife.
Actually, Gazza did his cruciate at the end of his career - are you sure you aren't Gazza making a comeback?
