i was (am :p)) HSBC visa customer for 2 years and it was allright. card is supposed to be expire in oct08, so in late sept08 i called cust service that i dont want to extend so pls dont charge me with annual fee. he said, i must call them again later after i receive statement @_@ and ask for cancellation after that. OK.
So i received monthly statement with annual charge abt S$ 133. I dutifully called them again as was told, and explain. They're ok to cancel the charge and would cut me off. But until may09, i still received the statement. I lost count how many times i called them since oct08, everytime i called them, they acknowledged their mistake.
I called them again abt 2weeks ago and they agreed (again) to cut me off.
Well, lets see ;)

I've had good experience with applying for Citibank credit cards in SG. It could be that I had good credit history with the Citibank Philippines.

Now, with HSBC... I had trouble when my small random PIN generator was replaced. I wasted over 6 hours of calling and then being put on hold (did this over a week) and I had to keep on explaining my situation (don't they use a CRM tools to track down customer issues?). Out of desperation, I contacted my relationship manager and she was the one who helped out. I wonder what will I do if she resigns from HSBC and I get into some issues with my HSBC stuff???

A person I know who works for a bank said "if it wasn't for the anti-competitive regulations none of us would be in business".

They know that they provide you a service that you need, but you have very little option as to who you get it from. Its a tough life.

The other amazing thing is that banks are always going on about "the bells and whistles" that they offer. What they haven't worked out is that if you get the basic's right people will move across in droves....
