Post by potatoland » Sun, 31 May 2009 1:36 pm

Is there any service to rent out mailing box? So i can use it to register my biz for ARCRA?

You cannot use a PO box as a business address.

You can petition to use your residential address as a business address.

Why can't you use your residential address?

Their fear is that you will turn a residential area into your business... next thing you know you'll have a container stored in the parking lot 'for just a little while'... or you will have a constant stream of visitors to your flat... or you'll actually be merchandising out of your home. They want to see a physically separate address to avoid these problems.

If you are doing export/import where are you doing your shipping and receiving? Can you not use an address there? Another option is to find an accountant who will allow you to use their address as your registered address. Quite a few will do this for a reasonable fee.

It's slightly more complicated than that:

- Companies that qualify under "Small Business Guidelines" need no registration or application of any kind, for HDB or private. There are basically limited to one-man/family-run businesses (no non-resident employees) that produce no noise and need no storage areas. No signage allowed. See http://www.homebiznez.com/bizmatters/hdbho.htm
- Home Office Scheme: Small offices in certain industries, with up to two outside employees. URA/HDB approval needed, S$20/three years.

Also check whether your lease forbids you from running a business at home.
