I never saw it personally, but there was a very famous cyclo- drome in Indianapolis opposite the Indy 500 track, pre WWII. If you go in the museum there is a picture of it. The guy rode a bear around in a side car attached to his motorcycle. Must have been around the same time as this picture... funny.

When I was a young boy I had the pleasure of watching motorcycle riders do this at the Calgary Stampede. Never cars and still great fun to watch.

SE, I had the same pleasure. My dad would take me to Atlantic City, NJ where they had a barrel and one year they had a steel/wire enclosed ball. Only ever saw motorcycles though (an no lions or women riders either - that I could remember anyway.) I must have been 8 or 10 at the time ( circa 1955-57 I'd guess).
