lost iphone, what to do?

Need help on what the best thing to do is in this situation.

I lost my iphone yesterday, and went to singtel today to pick up my replacement sim card.

They told me that because i've had the phone + contract for less than a year, they can't do anything about it.

I would have to wait until the year is up, then 'upgrade' my phone, which means paying for a new phone + an extra $300 + signing up for another 2 year contract!

They told me the 2 years could be reduced to 1 year upon approval, but that's still 1 year too many.

So now i am having to pay an expensive line rental every month, with no phone!

Should i just pay the $800 to break the contract and cut my losses?
or is there a way i can buy an iphone without the line, which would work with this sim card/number?

Advice on the best course of action would be appreciated!

You need to register the loss with the police, the telephone is still traceable by anyone that puts a sim card in it, the resistration number of your phone, will be registered with singtel, it's very easy to trace, providing they don't use a pay as you go card.

The police also check send out a list of phones that are lost or stolen, with registered numbers to pawn shops and such, how effective it is, i don't know for the police, but for singtel as soon as the phone is switched on, they can locate the user, a police report is required for any claims.

Thanks for your reply ksl, ive made a police report, but im pretty much resigned to the fact i wont be seeing it again. but ya never know i guess

:o

im just wondering whether it makes more sense to pay $800 to break the contract...because if i continue with it, its a lot of money to pay every month.

or whether i should buy a second hand iphone and continue with the monthly payments?

confused

I think if you can pick up any phone it won't matter which model, and just hang in there until you can upgrade, it doesn't specifically have to be the iphone, because by the time the contract runs out, you are entitled to a new one....so better get the phone you are going to be happy with, second hand, if you are looking to upgrade.

I use two phones myself, one which is very slim and handy for running, infact I have several older phones!
