Can you give an idea as to your price range? There are a number of hotels ranging from 5* to backpacker accommodation in bugis and the top end of little india. What exactly are you looking for?

What do you mean by "better options" - Sleepy Sams is a backpackers place with very good ratings. Are you looking for a hotel? At that price you are unlikely to get your own room. Dorm rooms in backpackers start at $16 pp and doubles (shared bathrooms) are around $60 per room.

One of the travel sites I monitor has recommended the Haising hotel in Jalan Besar road. It is very central. See the tip about 1/2 way down this page http://www.virtualtourist.com/hotels/As ... C-R-1.html

I have put together a list of some of the backpacker accommodation in the area here: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/6aca9/16d27f/3/

The other option is to look at the classified section for rooms to rent as you may find short stay options there.
