complaints against shipping companies/movers

Post by sunny_UK » Tue, 12 May 2009 5:11 pm

I had arranged for my stuff to be shipped to from Singaprore from an agency. I paid them by cheque and had them pick up the stuff on 27th April,

The shippment was for Bombay and they said it would be shipped by end of Apr and would arrive in 3 weeks.

I flew back to Bombay on 2nd May and I have not heard from the Movers since.. They are not returing my phone calls nither replying to my emails.. is there any agecny I can complain about them or file a police complain.

I have paid them by cheque so I am sure they can be traced.

Anyone had any suggestions.

Sunny

Next time use a reputable accredited freight forwarder.

Check the small print of your insurance company to see if you have a claim.

See if the firm was accredited with any associations if so give them a call.

They could well have gone bankrupt?

Hi Sunny, sorry to hear about your plight but perhaps I can point you in the right direction. Since you mentioned your goods would take 3 weeks to ship out I am assuming you sent them by seafreight.

Do you have a copy of the Bill of Lading, this would show the details of your shipment, the receiving agents contact details and the name of the carrier + estimated date of arrival.

Did you provide your full contact details in Bombay to your forwarder in Singapore and did they forward these details to their clearing agent in Bombay (or Mumbai actually), perhaps they are trying to contact you as we speak ?

Also there might be delays with the shipping line, port congestion etc. Best thing to do is to ring up the Singapore forwarder and get the contact details of their clearing agent in Bombay.

Hope all works out well !
