Any Gardening Enthusiasts out there?

Post by LoriW » Sun, 10 May 2009 11:58 pm

I almost entitled this thread "any gardeners" and then realised that it might be mis-interpreted as wanting to hire a gardener!

I'm due to be moving to Singapore in July for 3 years and have just been doing some gardening and enjoying a lovely day of british springtime. I'm going to really miss growing stuff and as far as I know, Singaporeans aren't really "into" gardening.

I've certainly seen Bougainvilleas in pots and I know there's a garden centre eww ..... sort of between Clementi and Bukit Timah.

I have no idea where I'm going to be living as yet so I'm assuming a windowbox or balcony will be my little green space.

What can I grow? I remember one of my aunts growing orchids in pots many years ago and having fruit trees in her garden. Can I grow citrus trees? I've got a couple in pots at home - just wondering if they can be found in Singapore and can they survive?

This is the tropics, everything grows everywhere, even in places where you don't expect it to.

Living in HDB flats or condos isn't very conducive to gardening, although it's easy enough to keep any flat green as long as you get a little light from somewhere. There are some pretty huge gardening centres at Upper Thomson Rd and Adam Rd. Far East Flora is probably the biggest name:
