Hi RichardIII,

Got it , unfortunately I can't send you a Pm as Im new to this forum. all I can say is THANK YOU!! you've saved me the pain and frustration. i didnt think of the local schools as I heard its difficult to get in. Anyway we now have a few to look into.

i dont care what anyone else thinks, definitely the teacher does make a difference, I remember asking my daughters teacher in Holland after a few months, she told me not to worry my daughter was fine, the amazing thing was her teacher in the Netherlands didnt speak much english as most of our conversations had to be translated, my daughter moved on to the next grade speaking fluent Dutch. thanks again and all the best.

Hi Richard III,

Sorry I couldn't reply to your private message...apparently I had not made enough posts in this place to have my voice heard :P

I don't know how much of what you wrote can be disclosed here, but I will reply briefly. Tao Nan School is located near Parkway Parade, and is a very traditional Chinese school. It used to be one of the schools to offer Chinese as a 1st language eons ago...I will say that the Chinese standard is probably still there?

To help answer your questions further, perhaps you will like to include your email in your PM to me? I will reply to your email in that way, thanks! :)

Thank you to everyone who has responded to this forum, and a big thanks to you Richard for raising this issue.

We are relocating to Singapore at the end of the year and I am actively exploring schooling options for my 3 children. I have a daughter 13 years, son 12 years and son 4 years old.

Coming from a rural location in Australia, Singapore is going to be a great adaptation change for them all.

The thing I am most concerned about is pastoral care in a school. My children are not ultimate academics, however they do have talents in non-academic subjects.

My daughter has had a difficult time in our school system having dyslexia and the aggravation caused by her difficulty with reading.

She now attends a fabulous school which gives equal value to her artistic talents as to other students academic achievements. It has a very supportive, caring environment and we are looking for a similar school in Singapore.

I would greatly appreciate any advice/suggestions regarding International Schools which may meet these requirements.

Also if there are schools we should definately avoid I would appreciate those details being PM to me.

Currently we are considering Dover Court Preparatory International School, so if anyone has specific feedback regarding this school that would be perfect! Hopefully it is not the school which caused problems!

Thanking you in anticipation.
Kind regards

I do not know about the school that you are putting your kids. But.....

Dyslexia Singapore is an assoc , you might want to look into for support

Other than that let's us know how you get on and if you need help feel free to throw a line

Thank you Mad Scientist and Richard for your advice and suggestions. I greatly appreciate it.

Richard it was good hear positive feedback regarding the school your older children attend, as initially this was our first choice, until I received some negative feedback regarding attitudes towards less academic students.

Unfortunately there is only so much research you can do online, and feedback from these forums although varied, is invaluable. I will be coming over to personally check out schools for myself in the next month, so hopefully that leads to a decision.

Once again thank you.
Kind regards

Moving Soon...

Post by Two2Tango » Mon, 31 May 2010 9:39 am

RichardIII, hate to trouble you, but could you PM me the name of that school as well. Their inability to focus on what their primary objective should be - the wellbeing and education of the kids - will apparently bite them in the rear. I'm sure they didn't expect that. Anyway, I'm compiling my short list now and would really love to know which schools to avoid.

My son had a similar experience in another country (at the same age even!). We moved schools and within two weeks he was back to his old happy self. As a result, I learned the lesson that you have - you really have to do your research as to which school is the best fit for your child.

Best of luck to you and your little boy...Thanks!

Otherwise, appreciate if you can PM me the name.

Thanks
