Some infos about a job in singapore!

Post by typophile » Thu, 30 Apr 2009 7:14 pm

Hi,
I have been contact with the company that want to hire me
in singapore, and im dealing a small problem.

They want to make a 6month contract at first with a lower salary
of 2300$ and after remake contract with my desired salary that
is already agreed on 3000$SD.I dont mind for a start go to a common
room, until i get used tothings there.

The company since that they never had a foreigner employee before
they asked me how i will get my work permision, though i have a
question that the first contract salary is below 2500$ and the next above
wont be a problem in that?

So, im reading all about permission at the moment, to give them an
answer Is it possible get a work permission before i land in singapore?
in this case, i have to send them my passport information, or my
degrees, and tell them to contact with with the ministry of manpower
and arrange my pass?

need some guides,
Thx for your time

No you cannot get it before you arrive, although you can get in-principle approval. You cannot apply for it. The employer has to do that. As far as the 6 months contract is concerned, it sounds a bit suspect to me. Beware.

ye agree on the contract, a bit used to it though in my job in european countries So more or less i just tell them, that its them that have to contact
with the ministry and tell me after what papers i have to bring with me,
and finish the application when im already there.
And in the meantime get the in-principle approval to be more secure.

Ok, i just cleared out some things,
that we only talking about getting S-pass
that takes a week to get it. Only question
left is the in-aprroval letter that my sponsored
company will apply for, is there a way of know
that they gonna approve it, before i land there?
so to finish the work permit once im there.
Thanks for your time

I think the 6 month contract thingy sounds very suspicious.
Even for locals, contract jobs are rarely turned into permanent jobs.

So, i'm sceptical that your new employer will "convert" your contract to permanent after 6 months. the most likely scenario is once your contract is expired, off you go! But, well, i may be wrong....
