Rentals and Dogs/Cats

Post by oepgkapg » Wed, 29 Apr 2009 1:22 pm

Hi ,

Can anyone provide any information in relation to the availability and cost of houses or similar that would have sufficient space for a medium sized dog? We also have a cat. I assume this type of accommodation will be expensive , is it also difficult to get?

thanks for any assistance you can provide , OP

plenty of rentals that take dogs and cats, there is a premium on it though. and importing is a pain.

Absolutely plenty of places that take pets, no worries there. If you're talking about non-HDB housing I'd say you could find places at both ends of the scale and everything in between. If you literally meant 'house', depending on the size and location it could be $3K per month or $30K.

Quarantine isn't so bad and not always necessary depending on where you are moving from. Good luck.

Will you have kids in school? Where will the working spouse have to commute to? Singapore is small, but we still have to narrow it down a bit.

Dogs are allowed but cats are not in HDB units.

If u rent a HDB only toy size dog are allowed and only 1 dog per house. For condominium and landed home, 3 dogs and no restrictions on size. :)

you probably already know, but your dog doesn't need to go into quarantine if from australia. once he/she lands at the cargo centre, you can collect your dog and have it home within a few hours - it's pretty straightforward.

as for condos, you shouldn't have too much problem provided the dog is no bigger than medium sized and well tempered, and not left home alone barking all day.

aim for a ground floor apartment with some outside space if possible.

good luck!

we brought two small dogs over from Australia 2.5 years ago ..... so easy!

no quarantine and the company brought them straight to us from the airport.

most apartments we looked at would have accepted them, but we chose one out on the west coast area, near where work is located at Jurong East.

Our dogs have settled in well and we are considerate of others in the same condo area that are frightened of them too.... that is more of an issue here in Singapore than anything else with the dogs!!

They never go into kennels when we travel as we always get a house sitter to come in to take care of them.

While there may be differing official rules regarding HDB's, when we were looking we met many people living in them with cats. We also found no landlords who felt that it would be an issue. My understanding is that there are more issues with dogs, particularly those of the larger varieties.
