Car rental - long term

Post by pbez » Mon, 27 Apr 2009 5:38 pm

Hi guys,

I was wondering if any of you have ever opted to rent a car while in Singapore. I was thinking that perhaps renting one for a year would be cheaper and easier than buying one. I've looked at the leasing rates, but they are outrageous. I would like to spend at most $1000 per month. Any suggestions anyone?

Thanks!

there was an article on the newspaper a few days ago about a car rental company doing S$29.90/day or about S$800/month rental inclusive of insurance and GST. the car is a made in china 1.3cc 5-door hatchback. the company is euroauto. google it.

Would it not be better to buy a 2nd hand Car rather than leasing for long term? (either upfront payment, if you can manage, or a personal loan perhaps?)

I am toying with the idea of buying (I will be selling two of my old Cars in India before relocating to SG in June) and can add up some of my own to buy a 3-4 year old small Car in SG. Even if I have to take some loan (I assume expats can get loan, even though they are on EP), at the end of two years I can re-sell the car and get some capital back?

Any thoughts??

i rented a damn car at $1k/month for a few months late last year when i was in singapore and thought it was a heckava deal.

then a taxicab driver hit me and there was so much trouble and problems with the insurance claims because apparently, i wasn't adequately insured.

please make sure you go through the paperwork thoroughly, and take care to rent only from legitimate rental companies, not private owners.

it's against the law for long-term private rentals, AFAIK... the weasels.
