The price of a good education

Post by dnewman » Sun, 26 Apr 2009 8:01 pm

Our finances have taken a considerable hit this year. That’s why my husband and I made the decision to fire our maid so we could still afford to keep our son in the private kindergarten we chose for him a year ago.

The reason I mention this is because I've been reading a heap of posts on expat forums about struggling with the costs of private schooling, and I can completely relate to this stress.

But to be honest I think parents who are savvy with their spending and are willing to cut back of a few luxuries can still give their kids the education they need.

Good luck with the times ahead

Hello there!

This is indeed bad times :(

I had to cut back on my son’s preschool and switch to an enrichment centre instead. That really eased us up on the cash flow but one good thing that came out of it was when we came across a flyer about this girl who came up with her own teaching program. We decided to try her out She is priceless and during some weekends, I will get together a few of my friends kids and she conducts fantastic workshops that are theme based and the children love it!

At times like this, when the economy is so bad, I think discovering this is like finding treasure within a storm. I was so worried about his social development when I stopped him from school but this was adressed through the workshops and the playgrp that I scheduled. No doubt, there was extra effort but i guess, drastic times requeires drastic measures!

Good luck to you too in the hard times ahead!
