Teenagers in Singapore

Post by Donna Dives » Sun, 26 Apr 2009 9:51 am

:?
Hi there! My husband and our 2 teenage children ages 13 and 15 years relocated from Wollongong mid January. The children did not want to leave their good social network, beaches, horses and motorbikes !

The kids are at the Overseas Family School (we did try to get them into the Australian International School - long story but 1 was accepted the other not based on his academic results). Both really want to go home -3 mths into it and we are open to any suggestions around networking with families who have children of similar ages. Our son who is 15 loves downhill bikeriding and has some friends at the skatepark in town- but no one really that they have invited over etc. Our daughter hates school and is very unhappy.
We live in Bukit Timah - house (which may not have been the best move from a networking perspective) and we are really enjoying the job, lifestyle but are starting to get very worried about the children - and think the best way to get them into the swing of Singapore is obviously new friends!

We are open to ideas, past experiences of families moving to Singapore successfully with teenagers (loads of families with younger children) and different networking opportunites-tough to organise a play date for a 15 year old 6 foot 2 boy!

Thank you for any feedback

Cheers
Donna

My daughter was much younger when we first moved here.
Joined a riding club for her.
Made a big difference in her accepting the new life.

If your kids miss their horses, you might try the Bukit Timah Saddle Club or Singapore Polo Club.
Riding activities are a good way for them to make new friends.
