home schooling
Hi Lapalette,
I haven't used this site for the longest time (annoyingly slow for some reason). Anyway not sure where you got up to with homeschooling. If you are interested (and anyone else here), a homeschooling mum will be giving a talk at my place early September on how to choose a curriculum, plus lots of advise available from existing homeschoolers.
PM me if you are interested in coming along (you can bring your children too as they will be gathered in the playroom) and I will let you know the time/place/date etc.

If you are American or are willing to use an American curriculum you might check out the online school located in Singapore which you get as a commercial link if you google "american school singapore."
They claim to offer an accredited curriculum (Commonwealth of Va and a second US accrediting agency.)
You can find a school that will offer co-curricular activities. The Singapore American Community Action Council (SACAC) offers many sports and athletic activities without regard to which school you are attending - though most take place at SAS you don't have to attend there to participate.

Hi there
We will be arriving soon with our 3 fab kids aged 8,7 and 3.5 and wondered if there is anyone who would like to discuss homeschoolers tips or whether there are any groups that meet up?
Your replies would be greatly be appreciated.

Hi Rachel,
We have been here since April and I am in the throws of setting up a school room for my very busy 9 year old son. I have two babies too, one will get some school sessions in the school room too. But main focus is to get the 9 year old up to speed and whizzing away at all the stuff he is good at. Am planning on loads of outside activities - swimming, soccer, music, martial arts and some extra maths - to make up for any lack of socialisation. Would love to catch up with you and anyone else of the same mind set!!! Don't think I am able to PM yet, but would love to talk more.
Cheers,
Karen

Hi Rachel,
I am from New Zealand, my husband is British. Where are you from? And what is your arrival date? Will you be in temporary accommodation and looking for something more permanant? That's how we did it. We spent 6 weeks in a Serviced Apartment and have since moved into a house.
We lived in the countryside in NZ, so are now starting to feeling the city crowd in around us. Initial we were just so star struck by the whole place that we weren't bothered. Having said that we are exciting about the lifestyle we'll lead for the next few years, and will look forward to our visits home to pastures green!
My children are a 9 year old boy, 21 month old girl and 5 month old girl. How about yourself? Also, do you have any idea on a curriculum you will follow for homeschooling? We are using NZ correspondence, and the internet.
Look forward to your next message, good luck with the packing! Exciting times!!

There are other homeschoolers here! Though most Singaporeans only homeschool their kinders, because they have rigorous testing if you continue.
We have many groups that get together for field trips, classes and play dates.
Would love to talk to you more.

Hi Karen
We are coming from "sunny" UK. We will be in a Serviced Apartment for two weeks and need to find somewhere permanent - don't know where, have been thinking West Coast Park area but we are not fixed - any recommendations?
I have heard the Catherine Mason curriculum is good but we are going to take the first couple of months easy as it would be the kids school hols anyway. But I need to get my head around it all, looking forward to the new experience.
I can't imagine what it is going to be like when we get there, we came for a visit in March but living there is just a dimension I can't get my head around.....
Anyway, it'd be great to keep in touch.
